😦 “Officer, could you buy my dog?” a little girl asked me, and the reason she was selling it moved me deeply.

That day, the cold was intense. The streets were icy, shops were closed. No one was around. In the distance, I spotted a little girl with a dog.

I looked around, but no adult was nearby. I have been patrolling this neighborhood for over ten years, and I know this area isn’t dangerous.

Still, I approached to understand why she was alone on the street in such weather.

I will never forget the expression on her face. It is etched in my memory. Her eyes were full of despair.

“Are you all alone? Where are your parents?” I asked. She didn’t answer and lowered her eyes.

I noticed a small tag hanging from the dog’s collar, showing a price.

“You’re selling your dog, little one?”

“Yes, sir. Could you buy my dad’s dog, please?”

“Why are you selling him?” I asked. Her answer moved me deeply.

The little girl, eyes downcast, finally whispered: “At home, we don’t have any food left, sir. Dad can’t find work, and Mom is sick… The dog helps us, but we don’t have enough to eat. So I have to sell my dog to be able to buy food.”

“Officer, can you buy my dog?” she asked me, and the reason she was selling it struck me to the heart.

Shocked and moved by her words, I could not remain indifferent.

I reached out my hand and, in a gentle voice, said: “Don’t worry, I will help you. You’re not alone.”

I took out my phone and contacted social services, explaining the situation.

A few hours later, social services arrived to provide immediate support to the family, and the little girl found some comfort.

The next day, volunteers brought supplies and medicine for her mother, and the dog, saved from being sold, returned to its family.
