“For three years, the prince searched for the perfect wife and forced every woman to pass through a mysterious wooden frame — but when the young girl everyone mocked stepped inside it, something unexpected happened…”
For three years, the king had repeated almost the same thing to his son every day.
— “You are the future ruler of this kingdom,” he said. “The people need a queen. You cannot postpone your marriage forever.”
But the prince would always calmly shake his head.
— “I will not get married simply because tradition demands it. I will marry only when I meet a woman whom I can truly love.”
The king could only sigh.
Time passed. The neighboring kingdoms offered their most beautiful princesses, while wealthy and powerful families dreamed of joining their bloodline with that of the royal family.
But the prince rejected every proposal.

Finally, he organized an unusual contest.
Once a year, the most beautiful and accomplished young women from the entire kingdom were invited to the palace.
Before entering the royal hall, each candidate had to undergo a rigorous examination.
Her health, education, manners, posture, intelligence, and ability to behave at court were carefully evaluated. Some women prepared for months simply for the chance to appear before the prince.
But the strangest part of the contest awaited them inside the throne room.
In the center of the room stood a large wooden frame carved in the shape of a woman’s body.
No one knew what it was for.
Only the prince knew its true purpose.
One by one, each candidate was ordered to step into the frame and remain perfectly still for a few seconds.
The prince carefully observed every woman.
Then, without showing the slightest emotion, he always said the same word:
— “Next.”
This mysterious test continued for three long years.
Hundreds of beautiful women passed through the frame, but none of them interested the prince enough for him to ask to see her again.
Throughout the kingdom, people began joking that their future king would remain single forever.
Then came another day of selection.
Once again, the palace was filled with elegant young women dressed in expensive gowns, covered in sparkling jewelry, and styled with the greatest care.
They whispered among themselves and wore confident smiles, pretending not to be nervous.
Suddenly, the immense palace doors opened.
A young woman entered alone.
She wore a simple but elegant dress, yet her appearance was very different from that of all the other candidates in the room.
She was visibly fuller-figured than the women usually admired at court, and her appearance did not match the narrow idea of perfection held by the kingdom.
Several candidates immediately exchanged mocking glances.
— “Did she enter the wrong place?”
— “Maybe she misunderstood the invitation.”
— “Does she really think the prince will even notice her?”
Within seconds, muffled laughter spread throughout the hall.
Even several courtiers struggled to hide their smiles.
The young woman heard every one of those cruel remarks.
But she did not respond.
She simply continued walking forward, her eyes lowered and her expression calm.
When her turn finally came, the royal servant hesitated.
He looked at the narrow wooden frame, then at the young woman.
— “Forgive me, madam, but the frame may be too small. Perhaps it would be better if you…”
The prince suddenly raised his hand.
— “No,” he said firmly. “Let her continue.”
The entire hall fell silent.
The young woman slowly approached the mysterious frame.
All eyes were fixed on her.
Some candidates covered their mouths, already ready to laugh when she became stuck.
But the young woman took a deep breath and stepped into the frame.
For several seconds, nothing happened.
Then the prince suddenly rose from his throne.
A hidden mechanism inside the wooden structure clicked.

And one minute later, everyone present in the hall stared in amazement at what had just been revealed…
The second part of the story can be found in the first comment.
The wooden frame made another quiet clicking sound.
Then, to everyone’s astonishment, its narrow sides began to move apart.
The carved panels slowly separated, widening the frame around the young woman until she could stand inside it perfectly comfortably.
A wave of confused whispers swept through the throne room.
The women who had been laughing only moments earlier fell silent.
The prince stepped down from his throne and approached the frame.
— “This was never a test of beauty,” he declared.
His voice echoed clearly throughout the hall.
— “It was a test of character.”
The young woman slowly raised her eyes.
The prince stopped in front of her.
— “For three years, hundreds of women stood inside this frame,” he continued. “Each of them believed it had been built to measure their bodies.”
He placed a hand on the carved wood.
— “But this frame was designed to respond to pressure.”
The king leaned forward, listening carefully.
The prince turned toward the crowd.
— “When a candidate entered, she was told that she might not fit inside. She was then given the opportunity to react.”
He looked at the group of elegantly dressed women.
— “Some became angry. Others insulted the servants. Some demanded that the frame be changed before they even tried to enter. A few mocked the women who had come before them.”
Several candidates lowered their heads.
— “But this woman,” the prince continued, looking at the unknown young woman, “heard every cruel word spoken about her. She was humiliated in front of the entire court. Yet she did not respond to cruelty with cruelty.”
The young woman looked confused.
— “I simply wanted to finish what I came here to do,” she replied softly.
The prince smiled for the first time that day.
— “And that is precisely why the frame opened.”
The crowd began whispering again.
A noblewoman stepped forward.
— “But how could the frame know?”
The prince pointed to a small metal plate hidden near the base.
— “The servant controls the mechanism. He opens the frame only when a woman shows patience, courage, and dignity under pressure.”
The royal servant bowed.
— “For three years,” the prince continued, “not a single candidate has completely passed this test.”
The young woman’s face turned red.
— “But I am not a princess,” she said. “My father is a baker. I have received no royal education, I possess no fortune, and I do not belong to a powerful family.”
The prince’s expression became serious.
— “I never asked for a powerful family…”
He stepped closer to her.
— “I asked for a woman I could trust when she stood beside me under the gaze of the entire kingdom.”
The king slowly rose from his throne.
For a moment, the young woman seemed frightened.
Then the king looked at his son and gently nodded.
— “What is your name?” the prince asked.
— “Clara,” she replied.
— “Clara,” he repeated. “Would you accept staying at the palace as an honored guest so that I may discover who you truly are?”
The room became completely silent.

Clara looked at the women who had mocked her.
None of them were smiling anymore.
Then she turned toward the prince.
— “I will stay,” she replied, “but only if I am never forced to become someone else in order to please this court.”
The prince smiled.
— “That is precisely the first condition I hoped to hear you set.”
A few months later, Clara did not become queen because she had succeeded in entering a wooden frame.
She became queen because, when the entire room had tried to bring her down, she had refused to lose her dignity.
And the mysterious frame remained in the throne room for generations—not as a device meant to measure a woman’s body, but as a reminder that true nobility is not something that can be seen from the outside.
