But there was no business trip.
A few hours after the plane took off, Daniel was already lounging by the pool at a luxury resort with his young mistress. He wanted to open it immediately, but decided to swim leisurely to the edge of the pool first.

They made plans for the evening, intending to go to a fancy restaurant, and completely forgot about the strange package.

Inside was a thick stack of photographs. The first few showed his lover—but not with him.

At the very bottom of the box was a folded piece of paper.
He slowly unfolded it.
Only a few lines were written on it.
“While you were relaxing and lying to your family, I wasn’t wasting any time either. The house has already been sold. I used the money to go on vacation with the children. I placed your mother in a good nursing home, where she is now being cared for 24/7 by specialists. You have nothing left.”
The note was signed.
Emma.
Daniel felt his hands trembling.
He immediately tried to call his wife.
Her phone was turned off.
He opened his banking app.
His accounts were almost empty.
He then called the real estate agent.
The latter calmly confirmed that the sale of the house had already been completed several days earlier, because his wife had been acting under a power of attorney that Daniel had signed without even reading the documents.
He slowly raised his head and looked at his mistress.
She was no longer trying to justify herself.
She simply whispered:
“I never thought it would end like this…”
