I hated my son’s wife, that “country girl”… until the night I heard what she was saying about me to the doctor at the hospital 😨😱

When my son brought his fiancée home for the first time, I immediately knew I wouldn’t like her.

She was too simple. No expensive clothes, no higher education, no refined manners like I had imagined for my son’s partner.

She had come from a village to the city. When she spoke, she sometimes mispronounced words, mixed up her sentences, and smiled shyly whenever she couldn’t express herself properly.

And it irritated me.

One day, during dinner, I coldly asked her:

— Did you really study properly at school?

She lowered her eyes without saying a word. And my son immediately took her hand under the table.

That’s when I realized… he was already on her side.

And that made me even angrier.

I couldn’t understand why my son had chosen her.

Our neighbor’s daughter was an accountant — beautiful, intelligent, educated. But this girl?

Just a simple country girl.

One day, while she was cooking, she timidly asked:

— Mom… where is the salt?

I didn’t even let her finish.

— I’m not your mother. Call me by my first and last name. And learn how to behave. You’re not in the village anymore.

The kitchen fell silent.

She didn’t say anything.

She simply put the spoon down on the table and went out onto the balcony.

That evening, my son yelled at me for the first time.

— Do you realize how much you’re hurting her?

— I’m only telling the truth, I replied.

But the truth was that I simply didn’t want to accept that my son now loved another woman more than me.

Time passed. I remained cold toward her. Even when she brought me my favorite cake or helped around the house, I pretended not to notice.

But one day, everything changed.

That day, I got severe food poisoning. My husband was out of town, and my son was at work.

I only remember a sharp pain… then the flashing lights of the ambulance.

When I opened my eyes in the hospital, she was the first person I saw.

My daughter-in-law.

She was sitting beside my bed. Her eyes were red, and she was holding my medicine in her hands.

— You’re awake… she whispered before immediately calling the doctor.

During the following days, she practically lived at the hospital.

In the morning, she would come with hot broth.

At night, she would straighten my blanket while I slept.

And one night, I woke up and heard her talking to the doctor in the hallway.

— Please… do everything you can. She just has to recover… I know she doesn’t like me… but she’s part of my family.

Those words sent a chill through me.

I closed my eyes, ashamed that I had heard them.

And for the first time, I thought:

“What if I was the one who had been wrong all along?”

After I returned home, I started looking at her differently.

I saw how exhausted she was, yet she never complained.

I saw how she waited for my son when he came home from work, warmed up dinner for him, and then stayed up late at night calculating the family expenses.

Before marrying her, my son spent all his time with his friends.

He didn’t save money. He didn’t think about the future.

But now?

A good job.

An apartment.

A car.

A peaceful home.

And most importantly — happy eyes.

One evening, my husband looked at me and said:

— Our daughter-in-law is a very strong woman.

I stayed silent for a long time.

Then I replied softly:

— I know…

But the real shock was still to come.

One day, I accidentally heard my daughter-in-law talking on the phone with her friend in the kitchen.

— Sometimes, it really hurts… she said quietly. But I understand her. She was simply afraid of losing her son…

I was standing behind the door, unable to move.

She… had never hated me.

Even after everything I had done to her.

That evening, when she asked once again:

— Mom… where is the salt?

For the first time, I smiled.

— It’s on the table, my dear…

She looked at me in surprise.

And suddenly, I understood that I had misjudged people my entire life.

Education, city life, or polished words don’t always mean having a big heart.

Sometimes, the kindest people come from the places you least expect… 💔
