Barely a few hours after an extremely difficult childbirth, I discovered that my husband had emptied the emergency fund intended for our baby in order to fly to Hawaii with his mistress. When I called him, he burst out laughing.

— “Now you’re stuck with diapers… I deserve a real vacation.”

My daughter, Lily, was only six hours old. She had been born three weeks early after seventeen hours of labor and an emergency C-section. She was resting under a warming lamp while I discovered that the account we had set aside for her medical care had gone from $38,500 to just $85.

I asked him:

— “Where are you?”

— “In Hawaii.”

— “With who?”

He let out a sigh.

— “With Vanessa. Don’t start again. Anyway, you’re stuck with diapers. I deserve a real vacation.”

Vanessa, his assistant, had even attended my baby shower.

— “You took the money from the baby fund…”

— “It was mostly my money anyway.”

That was a lie. I had deposited $30,000 into that account, money from selling software I had developed before our marriage.

In the background, I heard Vanessa exclaim:

— “Tell her to hang up, or we’re going to miss the boat!”

Then Daniel added:

— “You’ll be fine. Your sister can help you.”

I looked at my daughter, kissed her forehead, and whispered:

— “Enjoy these moments while you can.”

Daniel had no idea what I was preparing. And very soon, a huge surprise was waiting for him.

What Daniel didn’t know was that before becoming a mother, I worked as a compliance analyst in the field of forensic financial investigations. While reviewing our synced files, I discovered that he had paid for his trip using company accounts, had disguised the expenses as a business trip, and had even forged my electronic signature to transfer the money.

Even from my hospital bed, I asked to see a social worker and a notary, and I began gathering all the evidence.

My husband thought he had left behind a broken wife. In reality, he had just handed all the evidence to the only person capable of bringing him down.

The next day, my lawyers initiated legal proceedings and obtained a freeze on several accounts linked to the fraudulent transactions.

His company was informed of the falsified expense reports and immediately opened an internal investigation. His return tickets were canceled, his bank cards were blocked, and overnight, Daniel found himself thousands of miles from home with no money.

When he tried to contact me, I didn’t answer.

For the first time, he understood that every one of his actions had consequences.

This time, it wasn’t me crying in a hospital room…

It was him, watching his life fall apart.
