Leaving her dying husband’s room, Anna was about to go home when she suddenly overheard a secret conversation between two nurses. Realizing what they were talking about, she was horrified. 😨😱
After saying goodbye to her husband, Anna left the hospital without noticing the tears streaming down her cheeks. She walked slowly, as if her legs were giving out, and leaned against the building’s wall to catch her breath.
Six months earlier, Mark had been a strong, confident man. He laughed, made plans, promised that they had their whole lives ahead of them. Anna trusted him completely. He was always there, always protecting her, always knowing the right words to say.
And now, he was in intensive care. A white room, cold light, tubes, wires, machines breathing for him.
“Everything will be fine,” Mark whispered as she held his hand. “We’ll get through this.”
Anna nodded, even though she knew it wasn’t true. The doctors had been so blunt. The illness was progressing too quickly. No donor had been found. There was almost no time left.
She stepped outside. It was the beginning of winter. People were going about their business. The world kept turning, as if nothing had happened.
Anna sat on a bench near the hospital and covered her face with her hands. Tears flowed freely. She didn’t try to hold them back.
After a few minutes, she felt a little better. She took a deep breath and was about to stand when she heard voices through the wall.
Two nurses were standing at the corner of the building, unaware of her. They were speaking in low voices, but every word was perfectly audible.
When Anna heard exactly what they were saying, she was horrified. 😨😱
“His wife still isn’t compatible,” one of them said in a weary tone.
“Yes, the test results are bad. It’s a shame… He really doesn’t have another choice.”

Anna winced. Her heart was pounding.
“You don’t know?” the second nurse continued in a low voice. “His mistress came yesterday. We checked her compatibility.”
“Really?”
“Absolutely. Complete compatibility. And her kidneys are in perfect condition.”
Anna struggled to breathe. Her ears were ringing.
“So why aren’t they going ahead with the operation?” the first nurse asked.
“The patient refused. He said he’d rather die than admit to his wife that he has a mistress.”
A brief silence settled.
“And an anonymous donor?” a hesitant nurse added.
“Who knows… He’s stubborn. And after that, it’s no longer our problem.”
“Poor woman…”
The voices faded, and Anna remained standing, unable to feel her legs. The world around her seemed frozen. Only her heart beat faintly in her chest.
He wasn’t dying by fate. There was a way out. He had simply chosen silence.
Anna looked at the door of the intensive care unit and couldn’t determine which emotion was stronger: the pain of being deceived and lied to by her husband, or the joy of knowing he could be saved.
