A young man married a 70-year-old Arab widow for her fortune. But on the night of their wedding, pretending to sleep with his eyes half-closed, he witnessed something that horrified him to his core.

He had not married her for love. He knew perfectly well that when she died, her entire inheritance—a vast fortune—would be his. That was why he was willing to endure a few years by her side. Especially since, after a stroke, the woman struggled to walk and appeared frail.

The wedding passed quietly, without celebration or guests. He saw his bride for the first time, dressed in a high-necked gown and a heavy silk hijab. Her face was hidden, her eyes downcast. She spoke not a single word, following tradition.

That night, in the vast bedroom, they were alone. The young man sat on the sofa, turned toward the wall, and pretended to sleep. He did not want to touch the old woman.

Outside, the city lights twinkled through the window. Silence filled the room. He could feel her presence, close, almost tangible.

After a while, she rose slowly. He opened his eyes, sure she would not notice him.

She moved to the mirror and began to remove her hijab, confident that her husband was asleep.

And in that moment, he saw something that made his blood run cold… 😲😱

Beneath the hijab was not the face of a 70-year-old widow, but a young, radiant girl. Smooth skin, delicate features, no wrinkles, no sign of illness. A young woman stared back at him from the mirror.

True horror gripped him. Only one thing was certain: there would be no inheritance.

She was young. She would outlive him. And divorce was not an option—tradition forbade it. He had trapped himself. He would spend the rest of his life with a woman he did not love, for a fortune he would never see.

He could not look away.

Then she turned slowly toward him, approaching the sofa. She leaned so close that he could feel her breath.

In a soft, almost whispered voice, she said:

“I know why you married me.”

A pause.

“But you will get nothing.”

She straightened and walked away calmly, leaving him alone in the dark with that thought.

That night, he could not sleep. For the first time, he realized that the most terrible thing in this story was not the money… but that he had become a victim of his own greed.
