My daughter was only two years old when she began to be fascinated by this horse. Our neighbors had a real horse at home. For a little girl, it was a true miracle: she could spend hours beside this big, calm animal.
She would hug his neck, press her cheek against his soft mane, and clap her hands on his warm back. Sometimes, they played together in the hayloft, and sometimes my daughter would fall asleep in the hay next to the horse, as if he were her best friend.
We would laugh while watching them, but deep down, we sometimes worried — after all, a horse is a large animal. Yet from their very first encounters, one thing was clear: the horse was incredibly intelligent and calm and seemed to understand that this was a child in need of special affection. This went on for months. Our daughter grew more and more attached to the horse, and the neighbor’s animal responded the same way. But one day, a neighbor knocked on our door. He looked unusually serious.
“We need to talk,” he said as soon as he walked in.

The neighbor then explained that his horse, which had been trained to detect changes in human health, had been behaving strangely around our daughter for a few days.

At first, we thought it was just a quirk of the animal, but his words worried us.
So we went to the doctor. After an examination, the terrible diagnosis came: our two-year-old daughter had cancer. But thanks to the early diagnosis, the doctors were able to act quickly.
Today, my daughter is alive and healthy. She still loves playing with the neighbor’s horse, and we now look at that animal with immense gratitude. After all, he was the first to alert us to watch over our child’s health.
