My husband bought an apartment just below ours for his partner. They lived there together for four years without my knowledge… until the day everything came to light.
One afternoon, as I was watering the plants on the balcony, I suddenly saw my husband coming up from the floor below.
He left a stranger’s apartment as calmly as if he were coming home. I was surprised, but I thought he was visiting a friend or a colleague.

A few days later, I saw him again at the same time. This time, he was carrying a grocery bag, his face filled with tenderness and joy…
An expression he hadn’t shown me in a long time. A painful suspicion started to grow inside me.
I decided to investigate. The concierge hesitated at first, but eventually confessed:
“Mr. Rodrigo often goes to apartment 904… A young woman has been renting it for years.”
My blood ran cold. 904 was just below my apartment. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it would burst from my chest.
Could it really be that my husband had been living a second life with another woman for four years, right beneath my feet, while I walked above this nest of betrayal day after day, completely unaware?
That very evening, I rang the doorbell of 904, pretending to deliver a “misrouted package.” A beautiful young woman opened the door, surprised to see me.
Behind her, I clearly saw Rodrigo, sitting on the sofa, his familiar sandals neatly placed on the floor.
At that moment, my world collapsed. He jumped up, nervous, and stammered:
“Isabel… let me explain…”
I looked him straight in the eyes, my voice trembling but filled with anger:
“Explain? For four years, you lived here like this! Was I your lawful wife… or just the shadow hiding your sin?”
Silence filled the small apartment. The woman lowered her head; Rodrigo was sweating and didn’t dare look at me.
In that instant, I knew our marriage was over. Such betrayal is unforgivable.
I went back home and slammed the door as if to break the last remaining chains. That night, he didn’t dare come home. The phone rang endlessly, but I didn’t answer.
The next morning, as I was packing my things, my mother-in-law, Doña Carmen, appeared with a stern expression:
“Do you really want to make such a fuss? All men have their indiscretions. Rodrigo loves you, he loves the children.
He only bought that apartment to be discreet. If you make a scandal, the whole family will laugh at us.”
Choking up, I asked:
“So you knew all along?”
She lowered her eyes and muttered:
“For four years. I told him to stop, but he didn’t listen. A wise woman knows how to turn a blind eye to protect her home.”
I burst into bitter laughter. Everyone had conspired to hide the truth from me: my husband, my mother-in-law… everyone. I alone had remained blind, standing just above that nest of adultery.
That evening, I sat across from Rodrigo. He got down on his knees, took my hands, and pleaded:
“Forgive me. I’ll end things with her. I’ll sell the apartment. Think of the children, of the family. Give me one more chance.”
I looked into the eyes I had once trusted in my youth and saw only a void of lies. I replied coldly:
“Don’t worry. I’ll let you go. But get ready for the trial. I’ll fight for custody and for the assets. You won’t get away that easily.”
My words were the final blow, cutting the roots of a rotten marriage. Rodrigo was paralyzed; Doña Carmen was speechless.
They had never imagined that the docile woman they once knew could end everything in a single stroke.
